Emmy Winning Celebrity Makeup Artist, Andrew Sotomayor
With 17 years of experience in beauty editorial, red carpet, fashion, film, television, and brand development, Andrew Sotomayor has made a name for himself as an industry professional and a go-to for makeup, beauty trends, temporary tattoos, and character design.
Since discovering his love of performing in musical theater as a teenager, Andrew always had a passion for the entertainment industry and makeup. Soon, while in college and working at a Lancome counter "just for the summer", he realized that his artistry could help real women to appreciate their beauty, have more fun with makeup, and enjoy their day just a bit more. He was hooked.
Refusing to be limited to one area of the beauty industry, Andrew became a frequent presenter in department stores and on live television; a makeup artist for 22 seasons of New York Fashion Week; and a celebrity makeup artist for eight Academy Award winning actors, three daughters of two US Presidents, a presidential candidate, a knight, a dame, some of the most powerful female CEOs. Andrew won his first Emmy for Saturday Night Live in 2017, was nominated for an Emmy for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in 2018, and nominated again for Ryan Murphy's Pose in 2019. He is the makeup department head for The Other Two on Comedy Central, and John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch on Netflix.
His latest work can be seen right now in two Broadway shows, having designed tattoos for Company, and the makeup and tattoos for West Side Story.
"To me, makeup is a great equalizer. Everyone, of every age, every skin tone, every gender, every faith, every size, every ethnicity, every background, whether you're a millionaire or you have two dollars in your pocket, you can wear a red lipstick. Beauty goes farther where fashion falls short. With makeup, everyone gets to participate.“
